Baptism: a new chance
It was 10 o’clock in the morning, when Frodo woke up in Rivendell. On October the 24th, if you want to know. By all means he was lucky to be alive, after his ordeal with the five Nazgûl who, after stabbing him with a Morgul blade, expected him to become a Ringwraith as well. But instead of succumbing, Frodo has a new chance.
Many biblical stories are about overcoming problems, and many are similar to Frodo’s. Sometimes these go with signs such as a name change. Baptism is such a sign as well, where a believer lets go of their former life. It is a sharp distinction between the old and the new, stating the old being is “dead and buried”, and a new creation has come in its place.
Every day brings opportunities to choose the new over the old. Are you ready to let go of the past, accept forgiveness and embrace the new chance you are given?
