Names

Tolkien put considerable effort in naming places and people, in the various languages of Middle Earth, and was aware of the importance of names. Aragorn is for example also known as Elessar – Elf Stone, the kingly title he chose for himeself, as well as Estel – Hope, chosen for him by Elrond.

In the Bible we find people who receive a new name: Abram becomes Abraham, Jacob becomes Israel, Simon becomes Peter. Revelation 3:12 mentions even Jesus will receive a new name.
