Temptation and reasons
“After all, why not,” Bilbo says to himself. He justifies why he should keep the ring, and gives in to its temptation.
Our own reasoning often is similar: there is usually some truth to our reasoning, but we keep away from the actual challenge and problem. And thus, little by little, it becomes easier for us to dilute our convictions and beliefs.
Proverbs 4:23 says to guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Do you remember if or when you used a logical argument to justify doing what you wanted to, instead of doing what you needed to?
